Week 1- This completes my first week at KSC. I really did not know what to expect as far duties that I would be assigned. Nick the Sports Director gave me a tour of the facility and talked about his duties. As the Sports Director, he is responsible for the daily operation of the sporting events that are schedule at the facility. These events include scheduling for soccer, basketball, and tournament games. The sports center is a very place during the evening.
Week 2- This week I had the opportunity to work in the concession area at the center. Nick felt this would be important because the concession area generates additional revenue for the facility. I also have the opportunity to interact with the public. I learned how important customer service is. My experience working in retail has helped with learning how to operate cash register and how to interact with people in a positive manner.
Week 3- This week Nick assigned me to work with the night manager. The night manager had me assisting him in completing the closing duties. The closing duties included cleaning the concession area, all the basketball courts, the entry area, and bathroom area. The appearance of the facility is very important because it makes a statement to the public the facility is a clean and safe place to bring their children. It took about 1-2 hours to complete the closing duties. The night manager was nice and was very diligent in getting things done. The night manager usually has 2 staff member closing the facility for the day.
Week 4- I am beginning to feel more comfortable here at KSC. Nick has allowed me to observe how to run a basketball tournament. I have noticed that he has to be very attentive to all the games that are going on the various courts. He has be able to answer questions that parents or coaches may have. My observation of how the bracket system works is very challenging because it deals with adding and subtracting points when teams win or lose a game. The tournament had teams coming from all over the Tri-state area.
Week 5- The Sports Director requested that I cover the concession area to help out. The concession area was very busy and my interaction with the customers was very positive. I able to fulfill customer request and accurately count their change back to them. I received positive feedback about customer service skills. This made me very happy since this is what I have do on my regular job.
Week 6- My duties this week were in the office. Nick had me assisting Debbie, the office manager in maintaining all details concerning the various league teams. I have to admit my comfort level using the computer was not that great. The center uses a software program called esoft. The esoft program allows the center to maintain all league information regarding payment, team schedules, team standings, team rosters, and communication with parents and coaches. Debbie had me entering the team basketball scores from the previous night. This has to be accurately or coaches will call for it to be done correctly if inaccurate. Debbie was very patient in teaching me how to access the system.
Week 7- It was requested that I help out in the concession area. The concession area was very busy and we all provided excellent customer service. I never knew that I could be able work in such a fast pace environment. I had no prior experience filling orders for hot dogs, pizza, soda, and other snacks. The on duty manager gave me positive feedback for my positive attitude and willingness to help out.
Week 8- This week has been busy for the center. It was time to solicit youth for the upcoming activities for the spring and summer basketball and camps. I assisted in compiling flyer packets that had to distributed to schools in the area. I had a list of schools and had to make sure that each school received the correct number of flyers to be distributed to their students. This is a form advertising for the center. Most schools in the area are very receptive of the flyers being distributed at their school.
Week 9- This was a very exciting week at KSC. It was sign up time for the spring basketball league. My job was to help sign up youth that were interested in playing basketball on the center’s league teams which are kingdom teams. The teams range from 3rd grade to high school and upper and lower divisions. Parents had to pay an enrollment fee, sign waiver form, and asked the t-shirt size for their child. It was constantly busy with youth signing up. I was very comfortable doing this. All the parents were very friendly and excited about their child playing at KSC.
Week 10- Assigned to work in the office to complete necessary computer. Each youth had to be assigned a team in the esoft computer software program. This is an excel spreadsheet which I have limited experience in using. Debbie explained to me what needed to be done and I followed her directions. After making a few mistakes I was finally able grasp how to complete the task. I was happy to be gaining more knowledge in the use of different computer software programs.
Week 11- There has been numerous games that have been played and my job was to enter the results in the esoft computer software program. My ability to use the esoft has become easier and I’m not asking many questions about accessing it as I was before. The esoft program is really not that difficult to learn and it provides good organization for teams to access information.
Week 12- I was given an opportunity to learn about the billing process at KSC. The center uses a binder to document all payments made by parents and coaches. It was my responsibility to accurately record payments received and is entered in esoft computer software program. Debbie also doubled checked my work to ensure it was done accurately.
Week 13- Public relations is very important at KSC. Nick assigned me the task of just making myself available to speak parents about the upcoming events at the center. I answered questions about the upcoming spring and summer basketball leagues. Most parents were very excited to hear about the events scheduled at KSC. I thought I would feel nervous talking to people but after awhile I felt very comfortable talking with people. Most of the people were very friendly and nice.
Week 14- My task during this week was continuing to establish good public relations with KSC customers. I greeted customers in a nice friendly manner as they came in the center. This was not a difficult task for me because this is my responsibility in my current job. There were a lot people that came to watch their children play in basketball games. Overall, the center has a good reputation in the community.
Week 15- Being organized helps the facility run more smoothly and eliminates some mistakes that occur. It was my responsible to organize the files for the different sporting events that the center offers. I enjoyed completing this task because I like to organize things. My organizational skills has been a skill that I most proud of and has benefitted the center.
